Hi - I would like to help. I have a hacked up 'IDE' written in IronPython using Weifen Luo's DockPanel Suite and the text editor dll from the SharpDevelop project. I have also begun to put together some debugging capability using mdbg. It might be enough to show you how to use SharpDevelop Editor component rather than whatever editor you are currently using.
